How a B2B Company Becomes Visible to ChatGPT and Other AI Assistants
What an AI assistant needs before it can describe and recommend a company, the seven pieces of work that give it that, what the company provides, how the result is measured, and what cannot be promised.
The short answer
An AI assistant can recommend a company only if it can read the company's site, find specific facts there, and find the same company described elsewhere. On the B2B sites I check, the usual stop is the second step: the assistant gets in, but finds slogans where it needed prices, terms and an order process it could quote.
Where assistants get their answers
When a buyer asks ChatGPT "who supplies X in Y", the assistant usually searches the web, opens a handful of pages and writes an answer from what it found. If the search engines behind it do not know the site, the site is not among those pages.
That gives three ways to be missing from an answer. The crawler is blocked, sometimes by a hosting or Cloudflare setting nobody remembers turning on. The page is found, but its text appears only after scripts run, and a crawler that does not run scripts sees an empty page. Or the page is readable but says nothing specific, and a competitor whose page lists prices and delivery times gets quoted instead.
The work, in seven pieces
- Access. robots.txt, the hosting firewall and the CMS let in the crawlers of ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google and Bing. I check this by requesting every key page as each of them.
- Text in the page. Prices, services, areas and contacts are in the HTML the server sends, so a crawler reads them without running anything.
- Markup. schema.org data for the organisation, its services, address and languages, checked in a validator.
- Search engines told. Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools set up and the sitemap submitted.
- Pages with the company's own facts. Two or three pages an assistant can quote: prices or price ranges, how an order goes from first contact to delivery, lead times. Published, or handed over ready to publish.
- Presence elsewhere. A filled-in Google Maps profile where the company has an address, with a plan for reviews, and three to five directories of its niche with texts ready, submitted in the company's name. The more places describe the company the same way, the more an assistant has to go on.
- Measurement. The same set of buyer questions asked before the work, and on day 30 and day 60 after it is handed over.
What the company provides
Access to the site, or a person who makes edits within a week. Access to Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools and analytics, or agreement to set them up. Hosting or Cloudflare access if the crawlers are blocked there. And the material for the pages: prices, areas, the order process, answers to common questions. If any of this comes late, the dates move by the same amount.
How the result is measured
Three things, in this order. Whether the assistant describes the company correctly when asked about it by name. Whether the company's site appears among the sources of answers to buyers' questions. And visits from chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, gemini.google.com and copilot.microsoft.com in the company's own analytics.
Being named in an answer is recorded too, as an addition. An answer names a few companies; ten suppliers in one city cannot all be first, while all ten can be visible.
What I do not promise
A place in any assistant's answer, a date by which it appears, positions in ordinary Google results, or a number of visits or inquiries.
How to start
Send your site and one line: how many inquiries you get a month and what one deal is worth. I reply in writing with what ChatGPT tells your buyer today. Prices and terms are on the AI Inbound page.
Short answers to common questions
Can anyone guarantee that ChatGPT will recommend my company?
No. Nobody controls what an assistant answers, and an answer names only a few companies. What can be guaranteed is the work: the site open to AI crawlers, the company's own facts readable on its pages, markup, Search Console and Bing set up, and three measurements in one format.
How long before anything changes?
Agencies report first shifts after four to eight weeks and steady results after three to six months. There is no independent measurement of this, so I measure before the work and on day 30 and day 60 after it is handed over, and show the difference.
Is this the same as SEO?
It overlaps. Both need a site that search engines can read. The difference is the reader: an assistant answers in its own words, so it needs facts it can quote, such as prices, terms, areas served and how an order works, written on the page itself.
What does it cost?
The launch is $600 together with support at $700 a month, minimum three months. The three measurements are part of the launch. Details are on the AI Inbound page.
